Die Types
There are a wide range of marking dies available on the market today.
We primarily focus on two types of custom dies: stamping and embossing.
Stamping Dies
A stamping die presses into metal to create an indented design. Since this is a direct imprint, the back side of the end product will remain flat.
Generally speaking, thicker material is better to be on the receiving end of a stamping press. Since the material will be indented, there has to be somewhere for that pressing to go. By using a thick material, there is enough room that the stamp can clearly mark the requisite design.
Embossing Dies
Embossing requires creating a male and female die set which form a raised design in the substrate. These raised designs are sometimes preferred due to the ability to stay legible in adverse conditions.
Embossed characters are raised upwards, or towards you if looking face on. These dies can also be made in the inverse, creating a design that is lowered away from you. This is referred to as debossing.
In contrast to stamping, embossing dies are best used with thinner material. The material is going to be sandwiched between two dies, and pressed together. The thinner the material, the easier this will be, and the better clarity of the end design.

MATERIAL
We make our stamping dies from steel material. This is the best substrate for dies as it is incredibly durable. Steel can also be heat treated to provide even greater durability.
When you are investing in a custom stamp, you want it to last as long as possible. Long lifespan of the stamp is crucial for industrial marking. A stamp that needs replaced after a dozen hits is worthless.
In addition to durability, steel is popular due to the clear designs it produces. The final impression it makes on your machine part or tool needs to be as close to perfect as possible. With steel, the indented design will be clean and easy to read.
CUSTOMIZATION
Stamps can be produced to include nearly any information you want to mark. This can be as simple as a few letters or numbers, or as complex as company logos with trademarks.
Keep in mind there are some limitations to the capability of stamps. For example, very complex designs may not imprint very effectively. Your best bet is to keep the design as simple as possible. Material thickness and detail of the stamp will determine how effective the resulting design is
